Educator of the Year Award

The 2008 HR SOUTHWEST, Human Resources Conference and Exposition will recognize an individual educator who has made significant contributions to the education of former, current, or prospective HR professionals. The "Educator of the Year" recipient will be honored during the keynote luncheon program on Thursday, October 16. In addition, he or she will receive a $1,000 grant from HR SOUTHWEST, a commemorative award, and complimentary Conference registration, hotel, and airfare (if necessary).

Jim Wilkins Excellence in Education Student Scholarship

A $1,000 one-year scholarship plus the net proceeds from the Silent Auction to be paid to your college or university on your behalf.  Award winners will be selected based upon their academic standing, involvement in their community and campus, and by recommendations of their professors, advisors, and/or employers.

Educator of the Year Award Requirements:

A candidate nominated for the “Educator of the Year" Award must meet the following requirements for consideration: 

  • Employed as an educator (Dean, Professor, Associate Professor, and/or Researcher) in Human Resource Management with an accredited college or university located within the Southwest region of the country and offering at least a Bachelor’s Degree program; or
  • An author or co-author of text books, manuals, study guides, journals, etc. used in the education of students in the Human Resource Management profession; or
  • A CEO, corporate Vice President, Human Resources Director/Manager or practitioner who has continuing involvement in any of the above-mentioned educational pursuits.

 

If a candidate is not selected the first year they are nominated, the candidate is automatically nominated the following year.  The "Educator of the Year" award can be won only once.

Jim Wilkins Student Scholarship Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a full-time student at an accredited college or university (Full-time undergraduates must carry a minimum of 12 semester hours and Full-time graduate students must carry a minimum of 6 semester hours)
  • Have attained at least junior standing at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year
  • Must be continuing classes after December 2008
  • Have a declared major in Human Resource Management or in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources
  • Carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be a member of an affiliated SHRM National Student Chapter in the South Central Region during the current academic year
  • Can not be a previous recipient of the Jim Wilkins Excellence in Education Scholarship
